How it came about: After playing poker at people's kitchen tables, flimsy card tables, back yard patio sets, B&M poker rooms and card rooms, I decided that I wanted to own a decent poker table. I looked and looked and looked around the internet for plans, sketches, and basic information on building one. I found nothing other than crap links that were buried in useless traffic generation pages which direct you to some online casino. I looked around at buying one and found that I wasn't willing to pay the inflated price for what I could easily build with the right tools and basic materials needed. So, getting started on this project, and I figured, I’m sure I wasn't the only one who once upon a time searched for resources on building a table and found nothing, and figured I would document and photograph the building of my table.

After seeing several other web sites with poker table construction details I decided to build my own. I read through the pcpotato site instructions, as well as Scott Keen's site. Both of these sites have great ideas for building a table, and I would be using these sites for my project. I have also added some small changes of my own here and there, like the railing construction, for example.
I used standard 4x8 plywood, 3/4" thick, with one smooth side. I won't post prices for my materials as I live in Hawaii, and most of the materials that could be found here are much more expensive than in North America

In my quest to not buy some junky, over priced, foreign-made poker table for our bi-weekly home game, I decided to build my own. I first searched the Web for a little guidance, and like most others before me in this quest, I didn't find much. I finally stumbled across a poker forum called 2+2 which had some guys talking about home-built DIY tables. There were pictures and links to pages similar (and better) than this one that helped me out a GREAT deal. So in homage to those folks, I decided to put up this simple page with my experiences. I got started late in the game and didn't get many pictures on the early stages of construction. Hopefully this page and the links I've provided will help others in their quest to build a poker table they can be proud of!

This table was relatively simple to make. It didn't require a lot of woodworking skills. However, it did require a decent amount of time an patience. All cutting of wood is rather simple, and by itself would only take a person with the proper tools a single weekend day. However, there are certain steps that required a bit of drying time (glue, polyurethane etc) that would stretch this project into a few days minimum.
First things first, lets start off with a list of items you'll need to complete this project.
