Home Theater Room size
Lets start with room size. Everyone wants to know what the best room dimensions are. There is no perfect room dimentiosn for a home theater but ideally you want the size of the room to be varied and not square od divisible by itself in dimensions (22' x 22' would be prone to standing waves and poorer overall sound quality than would a room that was say 18' wide x 26' long x 8' tall)
You can get more detailed information on room layout and home theater design at Design the Ultimate Home Theater- On a Budget From Home Theater Magazine.

Sound Proofing your Home Theater
Keeping the sound from your speakers in your home theater is an important factor when desiging your room. One of the old tricks was to use double drywall. Which means just installing a second layer of drywall ove r the first layer.
There are now a few good products that will help you design a home theater that has minimal sound transfer through walls.
Audioseal Sound Barrier
This is a thin material type of product that you can buy from AcousticalSolutions.com. It is very dense, about 1 lb per sq ft according to their website. It comes in a 54" wide roll and is available in reinforced and non reinforced rolls.
Isolation clips
AlphaResiliant Isolation Clips are a clip that allow your drywall to "float" off the studs, thus not letting the sound transfer through. These clips are economical and should be considered when designing your home theater.
Home Theater Furniture & carpeting
When desiging your Home Theater you will want to pay special attention to the furniture and carpeting. There are many styles of "movie theme" carpets with movie reels and pocorn graphics and more. When it comes to home theater seating your choices are endless. From recliners to plastic theater seats to real wood and leather theater seats for thousands of dollars.
